Made it to Japan!!
So there I was, waiting for Mike and I decided to make a a sign to welcome him to Japan. Right after I got done, I saw a Japanese lady holding the same sign!! Hahaha, so I started talking to her and figured out she was there to pick us up and she was a friend of a friend of Mike's mom or something. Her English is pretty limited, but fortunately I'd been memorizing Japanese phrases the entire flight, and now I had the chance to practice them! ^_^
Me acting as a translator for Mike. Hahaha, it was fun trying to make up what I guessed she was saying. (At this point my ten phrases in Japanese were helping me to better than Mike's none)
The highlight of our conversations for me were when I tried out a phrase that I read online, and she totally understood it!! "I tried to fart, but poop came out!"
Getting some good luck
So hungry waiting in line...
Mike checking out the all Japanese menu. It's actually supposed to be lengthwise, haha.
Eating some delicious delicious food : )
After dinner we parted ways, but right before I did I tried using a phrase that Miko (the Japanese lady with us) had taught me earlier. It's supposed to be a synonym for handsome: Igaiman (pronounced: EE-GAY-MAN)
Mike and I had been laughing about it earlier because it sounds kind of like I'm a gay man. Anyway, I said it and she goes (in perfect English): what?? he's a gay man? He's a gay man?
Hahaha. She totally got me.
Mike and I split up so I could go find my couchsurfing host, Kait. We met up with her friend Lindsay to grab some food. One thing I've figured out about Japan is that everyone is skinny because all the portions are TINY! The small second dinner we shared was much needed.
We also totally went into a photo booth : D
If you look close (especially at the middle left photo) you can totally see that my eyes are enlarged!!! I thought that was so hilarious because my Japanese girl-friends always had photos like this. It's all automatic!! So great.
And to finish off the night, we did Karaoke!!! What a perfect first day in Japan. My new favorite Karaoke song is: Can't Stop by Red Hot Chili Peppers. It's so fun to sing!! We made quite a few friends at the karaoke bar and some Australian guy really loved singing oldies with us. It was great. After that we just went home and went to bed. : )
